My influence in art and design is unearthed by the found textures in the world. I love the linear element of power lines, the beauty of old paint chipping off a building or the random marks a door makes as it repeatedly rubs against a wall. I am also drawn in by the simplistic and the antiquated; whether it is a vintage microphone, an air balloon or an old world globe.
Having been exposed to the arts while growing up due to my motherʼs involvement, there was never a doubt as to what I wanted to do. I began my studies at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. I entered the Art Department with a background in writing and photography from my preliminary studies. I learned to appreciate the digital medium for its quick and controlled atmosphere, but also gravitated toward printmaking and sculpture for just the opposite. What I respected most then and still do today, was the ability to collaborate with different media and even people. By stitching all my interests together, I developed a form of expression that was commercially apt, yet maintained my fine art influence.
I ventured to the University of Michigan in 2003 to finalize my degree. I continued my investigation with printmaking, steel and graphic design under the appropriate teachings of Patricia Olynyk, Brad Smith, Bill Burgard and Anne Mondro. Today, with 13 years of experience in art and design, eleven in graphic design and five in web design, I am still just as enthusiastic about this field as the day I began. I cherish what I do for its challenges and how it forces me to balance my right and left brain on a daily basis. Besides my family, there is nothing else in the world that I enjoy more.
